Jay Lavroff concentrates his practice in litigation, with an emphasis in the areas of insurance coverage and defense of bodily injury and property damage claims. Issues that Jay has litigated include insurance coverage for remediation of environmental contamination and mass torts, construction defects, storm damage and loss of collector cars. Jay also has extensive experience in defending under general liability, employers’ liability, homeowners and auto policies. In addition to trial work in the state and federal courts, Jay has also successfully prosecuted and defended appeals in the New Jersey Supreme Court and Appellate Division, and the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court. Jay’s clients include commercial and personal lines insurance carriers that issue policies at the primary and excess levels.
Jay is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts in New Jersey and New York as well as the United States Supreme Court, and has appeared
pro hac vice in courts across the country. He currently serves as a Special Ethics Master of the New Jersey Supreme Court and previously chaired the District XII Ethics Committee. Jay is a former president of the Union County Bar Association, and has chaired or been a member of various committees of that association as well as the New Jersey State Bar Association. Jay also serves as an arbitrator in the Union County compulsory arbitration program for both bodily injury and commercial lawsuits. Jay has been repeatedly selected by his peers for inclusion in New Jersey Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America® in the field of Insurance Law, and was named the 2018 Professional Lawyer of the Year by the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law.
