On Tuesday October 14, Litigation Shareholder Jay Lavroff was a featured speaker at the Union County Bar Association’s annual Professionalism Day program, hosted by the Association and the Union County Judiciary. Moderated by Hon. James Hely and Union County Bar President Robert Jeney, the program focused on the theme “Professionalism, the Rule of Law, and You”.
Optional pre-seminar suggested resources for attendees of Professionalism Day included Night by Eli Wiesel and the film Judgment at Nuremberg (1961). With these resources as a foundation for the audience, Jay’s remarks centered on 1930’s Germany. He provided a historical look at how a breakdown in the rule of law can occur even in a society with an established and independent legislature and judiciary. His remarks highlighted the great importance for all members of the legal profession to remain committed to the principles of civility, dignity, morality and the upholding of the rule of law for all members of society.
The event was attended by over 125 lawyers and judges and provided 2.0 credits in ethics.
